Dear Brother in Blue,

I want to remind you of the truth that God has given the ultimate authority over what happens in history to His Son, Jesus Christ. He has placed all things in subjection to Him as stated in Ephesians 1:22-23 “And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

It can be easy to confuse the terms “power” and “authority”, but it’s important to remember that Satan still has power but he doesn’t have final authority. Authority is the right to use the power that you possess. As stated in John 19:11 “Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above.”

For example, in a football game, the players are bigger and stronger than the referees, but the referees have the authority to put you out of the game. Satan has power, but the only way he is free to use that power over the lives of individuals, families, churches, or even the broader society is through the failure to operate from under the rightful headship of the Lord Jesus Christ. Satan does not have the authority to use his power when you function under the covenantal covering of Jesus Christ as stated in Colossians 2:15 “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”

Take some time to reflect on whether Satan has authority over you. Consider why his power over you is limited. Thank God that He has both power and authority in your life. Remember to always align your thoughts with God’s word so that you will walk in the authority that comes from knowing Him. Remember that Jesus holds the authority over all things and Satan’s power is limited when you operate under the covenantal covering of Jesus Christ.

With Brotherly Love and Encouragement,
